Poached Pears with Gingerbread Cake

Looking for a festive dessert that will wow your guests this Christmas? Last weekend I took a holiday dessert cooking class at the Wooden Spoon in Chicago. One of the desserts we made was a gingerbread cake with poached pears and a wintery dusting of powdered sugar. Its a recipe from Martha Stewart. Not only does it look divine, but it tastes amazing. The recipe is a little long, but you can cook the poached pears up to a week ahead of time.
