Rodney Strong Vineyards

Matt and I have been working on expanding our pallet on wine so a few weekends ago, before a canoe trip, we stopped at Rodney Strong in Healdsburg, CA for a tasting. When I think of wine I think of Napa, but the Russian River has some great wineries that we passed with much less people! The day we went was almost one hundred degrees so we were sweating, but there was lots of beautiful sunshine over the vineyards.
Matt and I did their Estate Wine Tasting and got to sample all of their Estate wines for $10. We were a big fan and even picked up a bottle of their 2011 Chalk Hill Chardonnay which I plan on saving for our anniversary this fall :)
We didn't have enough time to do a full tour of their winery, but they have a walking tour around their tasting room that allows you to read about the history of the winery and the wine-making process.
One thing that I thought was interesting about them was that they are a certified sustainable vineyard and winery. We talked to a woman that worked there and she explained that to be certified, you are judged on several aspects including air quality, wildlife protection, ect. The kicker is that you have to improve on these standards every year. I think thats fantastic!
If you're going to be in the area, I recommend stopping by Rodney Strong and many other wineries in Russian River. You can also pick up many Rodney Strong wines at your local wine shop.
