November Reads

So  this post comes at the end of November only because I haven't had much time to read with all the homework I've had. These are two books that I've gotten through fairly fast and would both be good reads for any traveling you might be doing for the holidays.
1.  Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love by Matt Logelin
This incredible love story about a husband and wife as they welcome their new baby girl. It's a tearjerker, but I love how the author writes in a stream of consciousness, diary way. It gives more emotion and understanding to the pain that he's feeling as he deals with the loss of his wife and the new love for his daughter. This book really shows you the importance of not taking the people in your life for granted. Matt also has a great blog, which reads like poetry.
2. Divergent by Veronica Roth
This book is the first in a trilogy of stories about a Dystopian Chicago society. The main character Beatrice has to choose her path at a coming of age ceremony at the age of 16 and the choice she makes surprises her family. She's holding on to a secret that might eventually destroy her. Similarly to the Hunger Games, it features a strong female lead and is another book that you can't put down. Its Chicago author Vernonica's first book and its fantastic. It has romance, violence, action, and moral dilemmas. The whole thing reads like a movie (which is coming out in Spring 2014!) Don't be surprised if the rest of the trilogy is on my December Reads post.
