Winter Oatmeal

winter oatmeal on katy's kitchen
So I know that oatmeal is not only a winter breakfast item, but I find myself eating a lot more of it when it gets colder. When my alarm goes off and I cuddled under my down comforter, its the first food I think about (along with coffee or tea). I love how versatile it is and how it can be different literally everyday. I also love how it keeps me full and makes me feel warm inside. When I'm walking to class all bundled up, I think about how glad I am that I ate a healthy and satiating breakfast. Sorry, I'll end my little love letter.
Anyways, this winter I've been experimenting with some different combinations and I thought I would share my favorite right now:
old fashioned oats (cooked according to the directions with milk)
some type of nut
craisins or raisins
brown sugar or maple syrup
spoonful of Chia seeds

  1. Cook oatmeal according to the directions.
  2. Add in your fixins and get eating!
I'm loving on Chia right now. It's easy to mix in to oatmeal or smoothies and keeps me full! If you've never tried it, check it out. It has AWESOME health benefits: Fiber, protein, antioxidants, and they are low on calories!

Announcement: If you're on University of Dayton's campus you have the opportunity to win a dinner from Katy's Kitchen! I've donated a free meal to Epsilon Nu Tau raffle fundraiser which is taking place December 2-5 (Mon-Thurs). You can purchase raffle tickets for $1 at Kennedy Union and put your raffle ticket in my box!
