December Reads

December Reads

This has been a great season for books! I've been voraciously reading and all the books have been very good.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarity
I've read Liane Moriarty's other book The Husband's Secret and have found her to be a master of suspenseful plots and surprise endings. This book is no different. Set in a seaside town in Australia, this book explores the complex relationships between families, friendships between fellow mothers, and weaves along the investigation of a potential murder.

Station 11 by Emily St. John Mandel
I've been a big fan of apocalyptic books. The genre has been moving out of young adult books and I've found a few very good adult books. This is another one. It follows a traveling Shakespeare group that keeps art alive after the fallout from a deadly flu. They travel around the Midwest, but destruction and danger meet them around every turn.

The Piano Teacher by Janice Y. K. Lee
You may say I have a bit of a thing for WWII books. I found this book on one of my mom's bookshelves and dug right it. It has two stories that are interwoven: One about the British internment camps during WWII in Hong Kong and another about an affair between two ex-Pats. I was not familiar with the British internment so historically it was enlightening and the story sucked me in.

#GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso
I'm pretty sure every girl between 18-25 has instagrammed the cover of this book. I was lucky enough to have a friend send me a copy and I read it on my last flight to San Francisco. I loved learning about Amoruso's business story and her encouragement of every girl to find what they're passionate about.
