Summer Reads 2015

I haven't done a book post in awhile. And by awhile I mean May. Whoops.

If you're interested in reading about health:

My Whole30 journey started with a conversation with a friend and recommendation for this book. It explains the science behind the Whole30. If you're at all considering doing a Whole30, I can't recommend this enough.

This book outlines all the rules for the Whole30, gives great advice and tons of recipes. I used this a ton during my Whole30. I love that recipes serve 2 because it made enough for dinner with leftovers for lunch the next day.

If you're interested in reading about faith:

I reread this book. I love the recipes and the stories and reading it a second time brought me to new conclusion. I can't recommend this enough.

I started this book and wasn't sure if I'd finish it, but ended up absolutely loving it. There were so many truths I needed to hear about Jesus, God and identity.

Still going through this book by Francis Chan, but its very thought provoking. It's all about marriage and what it means in light of eternity.

If you want some fiction:

This was a beach read for me. It's the story of a chef and how her background shaped her palette. It's a little bit Prairie Home Companion and sort of fluffy, but had some recipes and a very intriguing story line.

I listened to this one on audiobook. Its a romantic comedy between a socially inept academic and a woman who doesn't fit any of his criteria. Very funny and unique.

Other books that didn't make the cut:

The Girl on the Train - This has been touted in several places as "The Next Gone Girl." I finished it, but I hated the main character which made enjoying the story hard. In the same vein, I didn't finish The Luckiest Girl Alive. Again touted as a "Gone Girl" but I absolutely detested the main character. The difference is Gone Girl made you like her first.

The Magicians - I got a recommendation about this from someone who described it as "Harry Potter, but in college." I have high Harry Potter standards. I still haven't finished this one, it won't seem to end!
